The Start of Something New
While the 2020 Girl Up Summit was virtual, it was a great opportunity for many young ambitious women all across the globe to attend. A team of young ambitious women was able to exchange ideas in the chat rooms. We came to a consensus that we wanted to make a change and to empower other young women. It started with discussing ideas and brainstorming as a group. Not long after that, we started to hold zoom meetings and structure our organization. By having long conversations, discussions, and critically examining all the ideas the founding members suggested, we reached a common ground. Girl Up International: Women Online was born.
What is Girl Up International: Women Online (IWO)
Girl Up International: Women Online is a virtual global organization that strives to connect women across the globe. We are a registered Girl Up Club under the UN's Girl Up Campaign. Our vision is to break gender barriers by discussing issues that women face daily. We work towards empowering women in multiple fields such as work, education, their personal lives. Here at Girl Up IWO, our vision is to create a global support system for women by women. We work towards creating a safe online global space for women to discuss issues and work on projects that empower other women, but most importantly to become educated advocates on global women issues.
Girl Up IWO inspires looking at the long term, to work as a non-profit and to create partnerships with other organizations. We want to take on different projects relating to global women’s issues. Our aim is to empower as many women in their daily lives and to help as many women dealing with global women’s issues such as domestic violence, racial injustices, and lack of education. The purpose of Girl Up IWO is to unify women with different backgrounds and different races, but the same vision to promote gender equality and tackle women related issues.
Want To Get Involved?
The Girl Up IWO community is a club that welcomes people from all over the globe, regardless of age, gender, or race. We, as citizens of the world, have a responsibility to educate ourselves on matters concerning the world. Our organization holds online meetings every other Saturday. We hold online events, challenges, and currently, we are starting up our own podcast where we will be able to share the narratives of women who have faced issues regarding gender inequality.
Even though we may have lived through different years, different circumstances, different countries, we all share the same gender ideals. We want to participate in the global push for women’s rights. Our goal is to see a world where women are equal. In order to achieve equality, we all need to unite and come together for equality for all genders. The future is female and it will always be that way until real change happens. We look forward to having you on our team!
